Learn more at the Dubspot blog: bit.ly Earlier this year at Giantstep's HQ, internationally renowned DJ, broadcaster, label owner, and record producer Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio 1, Acid Jazz, Talkin' Loud, and Brownswood) stopped by Dubspot for an interview in which he talked about, from his early days; from an ambitious sixteen year old pirate radio DJ with love and appreciation for jazz and funk, and drive and motivation to discover and share music, to founding and running crucial record labels such as Acid Jazz and Talkin' Loud and more recently forming Brownswood Recordings which released the double-CD album Havana Cultura: New Cuba Sound. He also discussed the massive shift in sound system culture and dance music in London. The UK capital seems to be going through a permanent "renaissance," with a series of transitory points (drum and bass, jungle, 2-step, garage, grime, dubstep, funky, bassline, etc.) Peterson explains how in a city with "a whole million types of hybrids and versions of house music... dubstep is the most important movement since drum and bass," and furthermore lists batch of incredible musicians and producers, including Skream, Benga, Mala, and Kode9, who are all making exciting and innovative sounds and pushing the music forward.

Sounds like you haven't made your mind up. (duh).
break it down.... into "goals" that would make a better future. Lets pretend your 53 and have a Private Practice....In the "states". Insurance is still high, Medicare is not paying like it used to and your liability insurance is through the roof.

Would having the credentials to go over seas actually call its own weight in gold?

Lets face it, Health Care reform is not going anywhere, as long as the drug companies dominate level of treatments.

(didn't mean to go left field there)

Realistically, I'm just trying to shed light on the benefit of having the abilities to go and perform surgery in India or Europe, That is where most people with the "money" to do so are ending up anyway.

Careers advice for young people - how to get a job as a sports producer on the TV

In our latest series of careers advice for young people we look at being a TV sports producer as a great career choice. The producer makes decisions on which sports matches or events are to be broadcast and also puts together an agenda of discussions for the TV expert panel.
If you have seen Match of the Day you have seen the TV experts discussing the action and also analysing what happened and why. Of course this is not done without preparation to ensure the smooth running of the program which makes for better viewing. This is the job of the sports producer so as you can see it's quite crucial to the program.
There is little seen during the broadcast of a live sporting event that does not fall either under the direct or indirect supervision of a TV sports producer. As a TV sports producer you will work very closely with the director. The director is in charge of all the elements that go to make up the broadcast whilst the producer is responsible for the preparation of all of the elements.
Some of the benefits of being a sports producer on the TV or that you get to meet famous sports personalities, working a lively environment, and get to see plenty of sport.
With a starting salary of around ?18,000 this is quite an attractive option for a recently qualified graduate. To excel in this position you need to be able to make quick informed decisions and also have the ability to put together data and information from various sources.
One downside to this work is that you will probably be working most weekends as that is when most sport is broadcast on the television. It goes without saying that you need to be fairly passionate about sport and if you take part in one or more activities yourself this will only help your cause in landing such a position.
To qualify for this career path you will need good A-level grades of A's and B's and you will probably start your career as a researcher or perhaps an interviewer moving on to become a sub editor. Another way to start this career path is to work in local radio or local television and learn the ropes there. You need to be energetic, enthusiastic and willing learner but the payback is generally worth it.

Goodwill Job Training Program Helps Washington Area

Goodwill Job Training Program Helps Washington Area

Article by R.C. Bryan

When Goodwill Industries crosses most peoples' minds, they think of things like the well-publicized vehicle donation program. They think of the donation facilities and all of the community works that are undertaken by the organization. That is all well and good, but vehicle donation isn't the only thing Goodwill Industries is good for.

The people at Goodwill in the Washington, D.C. area are working really hard to make real life changes to the metro area. Chief among their projects is a new job training program, which looks to put people in position to obtain gainful employment. This is especially important now, as jobs are difficult to come by. If people in the area are going to be employed, they have to have the necessary skills to stand out in a difficult climate.

This is one of the most important projects that Goodwill Industries puts on, in addition to its vehicle donation program. In these trying times, the folks at Goodwill have realized that helping the community is about much more than taking up donations and helping out during the holidays. It is much more about doing things to enhance the community and its future. With the new job training programs, people get necessary skills training to help them succeed in interviews and to help them succeed when they actually gain employment.

The good thing about the program, at least in D.C., is that it teaches not only the hard skills of getting the job done, but also the other skills associated with workplace success. How do I dress? What do I say? What does it take to have big time success? These are all very real questions, so they are things that the program works hard to instill in participants.

While you might hear more about vehicle donation than any of the other Goodwill Industries programs, know that they are doing more than just taking up collections to help the community. Though vehicle donation remains chief among their charity efforts, this is one program that is putting people in the position for both instant and sustained success.

Looking to make a big positive impact on your local community? Consider vehicle donation as a means. The process of donating your vehicle is made easy when you follow the instructions at http://www.charitydispatch.com/goodwill_donation/

Question by lionheart: I need career advice, thinking about a career in the FBI as a criminal profiler?
I'm still not sure yet but i think I want to become a supervisory special agent with the NCAVC or a criminal profiler as its more commonly known. Of course I realize that I will spend many years as an FBI special agent first and even then getting into the NCAVC and even then its not guaranteed. I'm only a freshman in high-school but I want to start planning on a career as soon as possible. Right now I'm just looking for any kind of advice such as useful courses to take in college, working conditions of an FBI special agent and/or criminal profiler or alternate careers in the FBI.
I'm generally an intelligent person and I'm good at figuring things out and reasoning- I'm a logical thinker. I just want a career where i can use my skills and also make the world a better place in some way. If you know of any other careers (in or outside criminal justice) that sound like what I'm looking for that would also be a big help.

Thank you for all your help.

Best answer:

Answer by JT
Getting in to the FBI is very difficult. Getting in to the elite NCAVC is even more challenging. I use to be interested in working for the FBI until I learned that you have no choice on where you will be stationed. Needless to say, I've researched what it takes to get in to the FBI. I also chose a course of study in college that will help to get in to the criminal justice system.
Working towards joining the FBI starts in high school. You have to consistently work hard to get good grades and boost your resume with community service and extra-curricular activities. When it comes to choosing a major in college there are several that the FBI recommends. Most people believe that Criminal Justice would be the obvious choice, but in actuality, that is not one of the recommended majors. The FBI's website list four majors that they are interested in. These include Accounting, Law, Language, and Computer Science. I recommend that you try to double major in college choosing one of the above mentioned majors and also psychology (to help with the NCAVC). While your in college you should definetly apply for an honors internship with the FBI. You must have at least a 3.0. Additionally, it is important that you maintain a high GPA your entire college career.

After college you could try and apply to the FBI right away. You may also choose to further your education and increase your chances of being hired by obtaining your masters, law degree, or doctorate.

Another job that might interest you is becoming an intelligence analyst for anyone of the federal agencies (military, CIA, FBI, DEA, etc.).
