Question by eric b: Can someone offer me some career advice with arborism?
I've been strongly considering getting involved in a career field involving conservation, trees, nature. I would love to care for trees. This may sound pretty naive, but I have a major fear of heights. I've done some research and it seems that in order to be an arborist it's very necessary to climb trees. I love studying trees, caring for the environment, and being in nature. Is there a field of tree study that doesn't involve the maintenance of trees and where I can still be in the field? Thank you for any advice.

Find The Best Career Advice For You
Finding a new job can be a very time consuming process, therefore the best thing to do is to look into different service that can offer you help in this area. There are two steps to this process, this includes:

a)Looking for a job
b)Making sure that your CV is up to date for when you need to apply

Looking for a job can be assisted by the help of professional recruitment services. These agencies can do all the work for you such as researching companies, and putting you forward for jobs. Furthermore most agencies will also help you with the second point of giving you CV advice. Not only that, such agencies will often also give you interview tips, as well as advice on negotiating new job offers and salaries. Using such professional recruitment services will give you more support throughout your job search and make the whole process much simpler and time efficient.

Another option when looking for career advice if you are a recent graduate, or you are still a student is to make the most of your careers service on campus. Careers centres often offer CV classes, as well as one on one appointments that you can book with an advisor to get help with job applications, CV's, as well as cover letters. This will be valuable help as graduate careers advisors will be able to give you specific help about what graduate recruiters are looking for.
One the other hand, many professional recruitment services will offer graduate specific help. This can be great support, especially if this is the first time you are entering the job market and you are not sure where to look, or what exactly to look for.

Handy tips can also be found on Linkdin, this professional social networking site can help you find companies and people, it is also a good place to pick up tips from others who are in the same industry. Twitter feeds will be fed into Linkdin, so this function will also will also help you keep up to date with the latest industry news. Professional recruitment services can also be found using this medium so it is a handy side-line to keep up with during your job search.

Make the most of the services that are available to you and get the best advice to find the best job for you.

Careers Advice For Young People - How To Get Your Dream Job And Stand Out From The Crowd

Careers advice for young people is a hot subject at the moment with the recession biting hard and University fees set to increase we need to help college graduates as much as possible.

As a student who has just graduated it can be really difficult to stand out from the crowd, especially if you are just sending in a standard resume and boring covering letter. You need to think of something a little different so that prospective employers notice you staright away.

Don't just rush into the first job that comes up either. Have a really good think about what your dream job would be, after all you could be in that job for many years and you don't want to get bored within a few months because you don't have a passion for the work.

]]>

Make sure that you research the job you want thoroughly and do your background swotting on any company that you attend an interview with. If you can reel off a few statistics about their turnover and rpofit and loss and also know some history of the company they will remember you more easily when it comes to choosing from all of the applicants for the position.

A great way to get your foot in the door is to start making your own interviews with people in this career sector. All you need is a video phone or inexpensive video camera and even a laptop with a webcam will suffice.

Ring round some of the companies in your area and tell them that you are researching their type of work and would like to do some video interviews. You will be amazed at how many of these companies will welcome the free publicity.

To find out how to produce you own podcast and get it onto the internet quickly visit Pods4Jobs.

Finding The Best Sources Of Career Advice

Finding The Best Sources Of Career Advice
It goes without saying that we all want to have a dream career to be able to have a career that invigorates us each morning rather than that leaves us uninspired and stressed out, and that is closely aligned to our beliefs and values. However, very few of us, given our increasingly time-poor lifestyles, have much time to be able to think about how we would like to redefine our career objectives.

You may be in a role that you would like to be more challenging or satisfying, and may be considering options within the organisation that you work with. You may even be considering a complete career change. Regardless of your exact needs, career advice from the right company can ensure that you make the right transition in a seamless, quick and confident way.

Looking online for career advice

The internet offers many benefits to those who are in need of career advice. Simply by typing career advice into a search engine, you can quickly gain access to the websites of a wide range of organisations offering high quality career advice. Another advantage of the internet is that you can browse it at any time on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week basis.

What to look for in a firm offering career advice

If you are looking for an organisation that offers career advice, you will have several key priorities. The right company offering career advice will take much of the stress and difficulty of determining the right direction for your career. It will help you to assess your position and to identify achievable goals that can help you to progress within your particular sector. Such a company will identify your skills and the role to which you are best suited in addition to the best ways of transferring to other disciplines.

You should also look for a firm that has a strong reputation when it comes to the full range of services that relate to your career, ranging from career management to career coaching. This way, youll never need to look anywhere else for services that allow you to further your career.

Career Advice: Look Who’s Talking

Career Advice: Look Who's Talking

Article by Cathy Goodwin

Using Twitter should be an important part of your job search. But when using Twitter (or any other service), I recommend asking the question, "Who's talking?"

Some people will give you advice based on their knowledge and experience. They will be objective because they have no stake in the process. They want to see you succeed but they will cheer whether you use a recruiter, answer a want ad or get an insider tip from your next door neighbor.

Generally you have to pay for high quality career advice. If you want free tips, you might as well as your mother. You have no guarantee or quality.

When you get free advice, look at who's talking. Does the advisor have a potential to be biased? Alas, that's usually the case.

For instance, just this morning I saw someone tweeting ten resume tips. At first I was impressed.

"Wow, this is generous," I thought. Most of the tips were good. For instance, the writer advised us to tailor resumes to specific jobs and career fields. Too many people spend a lot of time and money creating a one-size-fits-all resume. If it fits all, it probably fits none.

But then I saw a couple of red flags. Readers were advised to state clearly that they are available for interviews. Huh? I would just say, "I look forward to discussing how my experience can contribute to your organization." Well, that's just a first draft.

Even worse, the writer advised applicants to discuss their salary history on their resumes. No career consultant would make that suggestion. Discuss salary after you get an offer. If HR presses you for a salary give a range - a huge range, skewed high.

There's one exception. Suppose you are happily employed or self-employed and you see an ad for something that sounds interesting. You might need to establish up front that they can afford you, before wasting anybody's time.

So I looked more closely at the writer's credentials. If she's a career coach, I said to myself, there's no way I'm going to refer anyone to her services. But she's not a career coach. She's an HR manager. And now I understood.

Many years ago, an executive recruiter gave a talk to my MBA alumni group in Philadelphia. He alienated most of the group by advising us to share our birth date, salary and a whole lot more. Of course he would make those recommendations. These disclosures make his job easier. And HR wants to deal in numbers as they screen hundreds of resumes for the job you want.

Ideally, of course, you'll have an inside track to the job you want. You'll use networking and get insider information. That's not what the recruiters and HR folks might hope you'll do. They want a bigger piece of the action.

Career Advice: What should I do,Where do I go

Career Advice: What should I do,Where do I go

Many people that have followed their dreams and actually began their careers, have become disappointed only to realize it has led them to a dead end street.
Now because of the economy, several of the careers that were lucrative when the people started out have now began to gradually fade away, finding them
selves embedded in something that's immobile.

What should I do:

If you find yourself in this situation you need Career Advice. One of the things a career councilor will advise you on is, when planing there should be a back up
plan, or as we call it plan B. Many professionals who's career have gone sour could never see this because they were so focused on reaching their goal there
was no consideration for any other option if they dint find gold at the end of the rainbow.

]]>

Only losers quit, seek out a new career because now you are armed with an advisory who's profession is to give career advise. There are many directions
you can be pointed to. Look at the trades, medical, legal, technical, sports, entertainment to name a few. It is always good if you know people on the inside
or help from friends and family can take you a long way.

Where do I go:

When allowing yourself to start over , making choice's in other directions you need to have a made up mind or it will be easy to get distracted. How? Because
you are on the out side looking in and little things can become subtle and have out of the way before you realize it., and that position your inside source made happen
or your family member that was able to put something together for you in the area of a new career, it all passed you by.

Our future depends on the choices we make now, having a goal in mind and doing all we can to accomplish that goal. With the help and efforts of others,  and there
ability to get doors opened and cause things to happen for us, we should settle it in our mind that we will stick to the plan discussed with  the advisory and hope everything
come out all right.

Yes you are going to have challenges along the way. However  there is a saying  people used back in the day and it work for me, saying , "ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE",
YA HEARD ME.

Careers Advice Tips for Recent Graduates

Careers Advice Tips for Recent Graduates

It is all too easy nowadays for you as a recent graduate  to just think about getting any job and hoping that you may enjoy it and stay in employment long enough to pay off your student loan.

However if you have not already been to the career advice service to ask for help then you may find yourself confused and frustrated by the job market when you start to apply for vacancies.

It will help you enormously to think about your career path before actually applying for jobs. First of all what do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Is this something that you could earn a living from? Job satisfaction is sometimes more important in the long run than the starting salary so you need to think carefully before just taking the first job that comes along as you could end up very unhappy working in a job you hate.

]]>

When considering a new career it is helpful if you can find out as much as you can about it before applying, as you may like the idea of the job title, but after investigation find that it is not what you want to do for the rest of your life.

Another aspect to consider is whether you are naturally good at a particular skill or pastime. Some young people are good negotiators in their peer group for example which can be very useful in a sales or junior management position.

The main thing to remember when embarking on your new career is that it is your life not anyone else's and you need to make the correct decisions so that you enjoy your work and lead a happy and fulfilling life.

Once you have completed your degree and start to look for a job, you will soon realise that the competition is extremely high. You need a unique selling point (USP) that makes you stand out from the crowd.

Let say you want to be an accountant for example, the best way to find out the real state of the market and meet influential people in that field is to go out and interview some local accountants in your location. Contact them by phone or email and explain to them that you are conducting research in order to try and secure a job and would like to come to their office and produce a video interview with them about their job. Explain that the whole process will only take 15 Min's and you will conduct the interview at their convenience.

Once the interview is complete you can upload it onto pods4jobs.com and receive a certificate of achievement. Then when you do attend your next interview you will have a USP as you will be able to quote accountants you have met and discuss your interviews with the interview panel. This will show that you have been proactive in your approach and shows that you have the drive and ambition to succeed.

The key is to find out as much as you can about careers and one great place to do that is at this Careers Advice Service where you can access thousands of job podcasts across many different career sectors.

Steps in Career Decision-Making

Steps in Career Decision-Making

The Career Decision-Making Process

When you jump start your process of career decision-making, it is good to know every step that can help you towards a successful result. Decisions, of course are aimed for positive outcomes though the results might end up in negative zone. A thorough study, a careful selection, and an appropriate plan would help us to reach a positive end.

1.    Do it now. Still you are not late, but if you postpone, you may become. As we mentioned before, this is your life’s most important decision, a choice towards lifelong happiness or lifelong regret. It is common that we make delay in our actions even when we know that the delay causes no benefit but harm. If courage is what causing your delay, remember that the most successful of all men were bold to face the consequences. So, when you are uncertain about your decision’s outcome, close your nose and gulp it down. At least you will remain happy that you have given a try, even if your efforts didn’t reap the way you expected. What if sluggishness is the reason for delay? Nothing, you better change your attitude or forget anything near to success.

2.    Know your inner self. I remember my first steps to the professional world as Assistant Sales Manager with one of the growing insurance companies in India. I have not only wasted my two months but also suffered to get back confidence in carrying out my next job. A professional degree in medicine cannot make you a successful doctor. To be successful in your profession, your skills must match with your interests and attitude.

3.    Search your options. It is time to investigate between career groups and options within each one. A career group is a collection of different jobs with similar characteristics. For example, engineering is a career group while administration is another. Every group offers some of the possible jobs for each jobseeker. If one option is not the right match for you, research on another one from the same group. If none of the jobs under a group are matching your personality and interest, you need to research on a new career group.

For instance, within engineering group itself we can find sub groups like software engineering, electrical engineering, and many more. Software engineering can offer you jobs like software developer, web designer, database administrator, software programmer, system analyst, and so on. You have a large pool to select you right choice.

4.    Choose wisely. Now that you are well aware about your possible options and your needs, select the best matching direction. Choose a career that most suitable to your personality and a few close substitutes for them from the same group. Learn what it takes to make you winning in the career you have chosen. Before you rush to the next stage, compare what you are with and what the job demands.

5.    Plan your path. Selection of a career is not the last step. You have only selected to reach somewhere but how and when are still to know. You may need to stop for a while or you may need an immediate launch. Plan your journey most comfortably and best enjoying.

6.    Watch your steps. A Lot of confusions are waiting for you out there. Make sure that you are heading right on your planned path. Keep necessary checkpoints on your journey and do not forget to stop and assess your proceedings at each checkpoint. Oh Yah! Do not get mangled by those free advices. They are sweet but at times poisonous and even capable enough to kill your entire career.
